We left Norway in shock the day after "the Event". Will Norway ever be the same again? Maybe a better question is whether the Norway in my mind last Thursday, before "Utöya", was real or not. A Norway where people are honest, hardworking, rosie cheeked athletes, proud of their local dialects, folk dresses and delicacies. They eat oatmeal for breakfast and a packed lunch out of home baked whole wheat bread with brown goat cheese on top, a national favorite. They spend their weekends walking and hiking and eating fresh fish. They can ski before they learn to walk.
My thoughts go out to all of those young people who will have to live with horrible images in their minds not to mention survival guilt. My heart bleeds for the many families who have lost a daughter or son, brother or sister, grandchild, niece, cousin. A friend, classmate or neighbor. I hope you can feel comfort in knowing they are in a better place and that you will see them again one day.
